Cinar Fraud Case Sentencing: Ronald Weinberg Gets Nine Years

A smile appeared on Catharine MacDonald’s face when Superior Court Justice Pierre Labrie sentenced Cinar co-founder Ronald Weinberg to nine years in prison for defrauding shareholders.

Two of his accomplices — John Xanthoudakis, 58, and Lino Matteo, 54 — were each sentenced to eight years in prison for their roles in the Cinar fraud scheme.

On June 2, a jury convicted the three men after hearing evidence for two years in the longest criminal jury trial in Canada.
